After a day or so of emergency talks, the Palace has officially responded to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s bombshell CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey. In a statement on behalf of the Queen, the Palace says the “whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Meghan and Harry.”
Nothing was off-limits during the Oprah interview, and racism was a big topic – when it came to Meghan’s treatment by the Royals and British press, as well as the explosive claim about “concerns” over baby Archie’s skin color.
The Palace calls the issues of race “particularly concerning,” saying they’re taken “very seriously” despite “varying recollections”… and notes that Harry, Meghan and Archie “will always be much loved family members.”
- Meanwhile, reactions are rolling in from individual Royal family members. Prince Charles seemed to laugh nervously when asked about the interview during his visit to a COVID-19 vaccine center in London, although he didn’t give an official comment. And a source tells “Entertainment Tonight” that Prince William is “devastated” by the interview, especially since Kate Middleton’s name came up a few times.
- ONE MORE THING! “Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver is ahead of the curve when it comes to the struggles that led to Meghan and Harry’s Royal exit. More than three years before their big Oprah interview, Oliver said to Stephen Colbert on “The Late Show” that he wouldn’t be surprised if Meghan dealt with “emotional complications” by marrying into the Royal family and ended up “pulling out at the last minute.” Check out a clip to the right.
