Two dozen bicyclists and 183 pedestrians died last year after being struck by vehicles in Michigan. Both means of transportation have proven increasingly more dangerous for Michiganders in recent years, with crashes returning to pre-pandemic levels after three consecutive annual increases. In 2023, Michigan reported 2,114 vehicle crashes involving pedestrians, and 1,480 involving bicyclists, according to state police data released this summer. That’s 11% more pedestrian-involved crashes and 10% more bicyclist-involved crashes than in 2022.
