A Lansing-area teen arraigned on open murder and gun charges in the death of his mother had been upset that his mother would not allow him to keep a puppy, authorities said.

Andrew Willson, 19, appeared Monday in an Ingham County District Court, the Associated Press said.

His mother, Lisa Willson, 51, was found shot to death on Friday in her Wheatfield Township home near Williamston. Her son, who had called 911, was later arrested, the AP said.

A sheriff’s detective testified in court that on Thursday evening, Willson had told her son that a puppy he found could not be kept at the home, but would have to go to Andrew Willson’s father’s home in Dansville, according to he AP and the Lansing State Journal.

Lisa Willson was shot in her sleep. Her son allegedly told police he used a rifle to shoot her in the back of the head.

The suspect is being held without bond.
