Budding trees and fewer freezing nights mean maple syrup season will soon end here in mid-Michigan. More than 50,000 gallons of sap have been boiled down to about 1,500 gallons of syrup in Shepherd since February 14th. The Shepherd Sugar Bush says the numbers are better than last year’s, but a lot lower than numbers seen in some recent years.
