For the second time in three games, Detroit Tigers pitcher Matt Boyd was knocked out of the game early, and the Tigers fell 12-9 to the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. Boyd never even retired a batter before being pulled. Victor Martinez started a Tigers comeback with a grand slam in the third cutting the deficit to 7-4, but the Tigers couldn’t seal the deal. With the loss, Detroit falls to 1.5 games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the final American League wild card spot.
