The Sacred Heart Irish fought back from an early deficit to secure a 13-2 victory over Vestaburg Saturday afternoon in their district title game. The Irish pick up their first district title since 2004. Matt Kornexl followed up a great performance on the mound in the district semifinal by scoring the go-ahead run for the Irish in the 5th. Jackson Reetz had a strong performance on the mound surrendering only two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts in six innings pitched.
Vestaburg starter Josh Noe started strong, but was pulled after surrendering seven runs in the fifth inning. Alex Steed took over for Noe, surrendering three runs of his own before being pulled. Noe gave up seven total runs, taking the loss for Vestaburg.
On the softball diamond, the Beal City Aggies saw their season come to an end falling 5-4 in a bizarre finish against Vestaburg in the district title game. The Aggies defeated the Irish in the morning softball contest. Sacred Heart baseball and Vestaburg softball will head to Evart next weekend for the regional semifinals and finals. The Irish take on Brethren in the semis, while the Wolverines do battle with Mason County Eastern.
