Kevin Spacey has been cleared of sexual assault charges following his four-week trial in the U.K. The actor broke down in tears when the verdict was announced on his 64th birthday.
“I would like to say that I am enormously grateful to the jury for having taken the time to examine all of the evidence, all of the facts carefully before they reached their decision. I am humbled by the outcome today,” Spacey shared.
The charges against Spacey included multiple counts of sexual assault and causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent. The alleged assaults took place between 2001 and 2013 while he was the artistic director of the London theater, Old Vic Theater. Prior to this legal battle, Spacey faced accusations of sexual misconduct and assault in the U.S., leading to him being let go from “House of Cards” and being replaced in the film “All the Money in the World.”
