Alec Baldwin took heat for shading Gillian Anderson on Twitter for her “switching accents.” Well, the fan backlash was enough to get Baldwin to quit Twitter – again – which he’s announced in a video posted to Instagram.

In the nearly 10-minute video, Baldwin explains his decision to leave Twitter, saying the Twitterverse can’t handle “irony.” He doesn’t mention Anderson by name, but says he’s a “huge fan” of the actor he’d referenced in his tweet, insisting he was just trying to highlight “multicultural expressions” being “your business”… like that of his wife Hilaria Baldwin, who took heat for exaggerating her Spanish heritage and accent.

“The problem with Twitter is there is a lot of haters,” he says. “Twitter is one-third interesting posts, one-third tedious, uninteresting nonsense, and one-third or more, just abject hatred and malice and unpleasantness.”
