Netflix is putting in effort – and major dollars – to help diversity entertainment. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has announced the creation of the Netflix Fund For Creative Equity, investing $100-million over five years to support underrepresented communities trying to find work in TV and film.

Netflix hasn’t shared which organizations the money will be going towards, but it’s previously contributed to non-profits like Project Involve and Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival’s Latinx Inclusion Fellowship Series. Sarandos hopes that the new fund will “help identify, train and provide job placement for up-and-coming talent globally.”

News of Netflix’s investment comes just as the streaming service announces the results of its first-of-its-kind diversity study. After analyzing 126 movies and 180 scripted series in 2018 and 2019, the study finds that Netflix is more inclusive than top-grossing theatrical films during the same time… although the streamer came up short in LGBTQ, disabled and Latinx representation.
