Hollywood has lost another star. Cloris Leachman, legendary actress and comedian, has died at 94. Leachman’s career took off after she competed in the 1946 Miss America Pageant, making her debut on “Actors Studio.”
She earned her own spin-off after starring as landlady Phyllis on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” winning two Emmys and a Golden Globe… and that’s just one of her many award-winning credits. She’s the most-nominated actress in Emmys history with 22 nods, and is tied with Julia Louis-Dreyfus for most wins – eight, to be exact. While she’s best known for her comedic performances, she won an Oscar for her dramatic role as a neglected wife in 1971’s “The Last Picture Show.”
Leachman’s son tells “TMZ” that she passed away of natural causes yesterday at her home in Encinitas, California, with her daughter Dinah by her side. “She had the best life beginning to end that you could wish for someone,” he says. “She left everyone with a lot of love.”
- Needless to say, Hollywood is in mourning. Stars like Mel Brooks, George Takei, John Stamos, Bob Saget and more have posted tributes on social media.
