Garth Brooks is the latest performer added tomorrow’s inauguration of Joe Biden, joining previously announced performers Lady Gaga, who’ll sing the national anthem, and Jennifer Lopez.
“This is not a political statement, this is statement of unity,” Garth insists. “This is kind of how I get to serve this country.” Garth notes, “I’ve played for every president there is, since Carter, with the exception of Reagan,” adding, “This is an honor for me to get to serve… and it’s one of the things that, if my family is around, no matter who the president-elect is, it’s an honor to be asked.”
As for what song he’ll sing, Garth says he has “two or three options,” but wouldn’t give details. He did insist he won’t be singing “We Shall Be Free,” noting he was “lucky enough” to sing it at President Barack Obama’s inauguration, adding, “so I don’t think you’ll see that.”
