Ellen Page is asking to be called Elliot from now on. The Oscar-nominated “Juno” star has come out as transgender.
The actor has shared an emotional statement on social media introducing himself as Elliot. Page uses both he/him and they/them pronouns, explaining that he’s transgender and gender non-binary. Page has thanked the trans community for inspiring him to “pursue my authentic self,” and for their “courage, generosity and ceaseless work to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place.”
“I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society,” Page writes. “I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. The most I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive.”
- Page is getting plenty of support from fans and famous friends alike, who have flooded the comments with love. Page’s wife Emma Portner has also chimed in, saying she’s “so proud” of her partner and urging folks to join her in “fervent support of trans life every single day.”
