Congratulations are in order for Barack Obama. His memoir, “A Promised Land,” sold a record 1-point-7 million copies in its first week. That puts it among the highest ever for a nonfiction book.

The book, which is one of two planned volumes, charts the former president’s path to the White House up to 2011 and the killing of Osama bin Laden. He reflects on his legacy, and the space between his presidential ambitions and the political reality of a Republican-controlled House and Senate that hampered them.

To get a perspective of how wonderful Barack’s achievement is, consider this – Crown Publishing Group upped its initial print run from 3-point-4 million copies to 4-point-3 million. Also, among former White House residents, only Michelle approaches his popularity as a writer. Her “Becoming,” published in 2018, has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and is currently in the top 20 on Amazon.
