Edward Norton is set to be deposed in February to give his account of the Harlem fire on the set of “Motherless Brooklyn” that killed firefighter Michael Davidson in March 2018.

Davidson’s widowEileen, and five displaced tenants sued Norton’s production company, Class 5 Inc., and the landlord for negligence. Four of the tenants want to hear from Norton because he was an eyewitness to the fire. Their lawyer, Elizabeth Eilener, added, “We believe that he possesses highly relevant information with respect to the set construction, materials and equipment used for the production as well as [information about] the events of the night in question.”

Meanwhile, Class 5’s lawyer, Marvin Putnam, says the only reason they want Ed to be deposed is to get more media attention. “Rather than first depose the building’s owner or the FDNY investigator, people who might actually have testimony about the cause of this tragedy, plaintiffs’ attorneys instead seek to depose Edward Norton,” Putnam says, “not because he had anything to do with the tragic fire, but because his deposition will get their name in the papers.” According to him, the fire report blamed a faulty boiler flue pipe that was on a different floor from the one they were filming.
