Here’s one for the books. R. Kelly was supposed to be in a Cook County court yesterday, but he decided he didn’t feel like it. According to Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Gonzalez, he “refused transport” from the federal lockup in downtown Chicago.

“The defendant was to be brought to court today. That was all worked out. The sheriffs were going to be bringing him over,” says Gonzalez. “As I understand it, he refused transport and so that is why the defendant is not before your honor today.” Steve Greenberg disagreed with Gonzalez’s assessment, but didn’t go into detail. Kelz’s attorney claimed that moving is client is “a large undertaking.”

Kelly – who’s facing numerous charges for sexual crimes – is due in court next on September 17th.
