Dolly Parton‘s next track reveal from her upcoming Rockstar album will be her version of the Beatles’ “Let It Be,” on which she’s accompanied by Paul McCartney, who wrote the song, and Ringo Starr, as well as Peter Frampton and Mick Fleetwood. The song will be released Friday, August 18, and Parton wrote on Twitter that, “This song is really special to me because I’m joined by @PaulMcCartney, who wrote the song, along with @ringostarrmusic,@peterframpton and @mickfleetwood.” The song was the title track to the Beatles‘ 12th and final album release, in May of 1970; it was also the companion soundtrack album to the documentary film of the same name.
Frampton tells us that Rockstar producer Kent Wells asked him to play on Parton’s “Let It Be” after recording a version of his hit “Baby, I Love Your Way.” “He says, ‘Would you like to do the solo on ‘Let It Be?’ So I said, ‘Don’t tell me…;’ he says, ‘Uh huh, Paul’s singing, Ringo’s playing drums, Mick Fleetwood’ son tambourine.’ Omigod. He said, ‘Do you want to do the solo?’ I said, ‘Uh huh,’ so I did the solo. So I’m over the moon about that.” :25 (OC: over the moon about that)
Rockstar is due out November 17 and features collaborations with Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Stevie Nicks, Sting, Elton John, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Emmylou Harris and Sheryl Crow, John Fogerty, Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon, Nikki Sixx and John 5 of Motley Crue, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steve Perry, Ann Wilson of Heart and many more. It’s the project Parton promised when she accepted induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.
