Eddie’s ex-wife, actress Valerie Bertinelli, has not only reacted to their son Wolf Van Halen’s Twitter tribute with a string of broken hearts, she’s also honored the late rock star on her own social media. “Through all your challenging treatments for lung cancer, you kept your gorgeous spirit and that impish grin,” she writes on Instagram. “I’m so grateful Wolfie and I were able to hold you in your last moments. I will see you in our next life my love.
Former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar tweeted a picture with Eddie writing, “Heartbroken and speechless. My love to the family.” David Lee Roth also shared a picture, captioning it, “What a Long Great Trip It’s Been..” Meanwhile, Michael Anthony also commented on Instagram, writing, “No words…Heartbroken, my love to the family💔”
Here’s how some have reacted to the news:
- Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello also wrote an essay for “Rolling Stone,” calling Eddie’s death “such a shattering tragedy.” He added that Eddie, “was one of the greatest, most inventive, truly visionary musicians of all time. He was an unparalleled titan in the annals of rock & roll. And on the Mount Rushmore of guitarists, he is neck-and-neck for the pole position.” Check it out here.
- Ozzy Osborne tells Rolling Stone that he knew Eddie had been sick because they had the same doctor, but he says “it really was a shock, because he was a good guy. He really was a good man.” Ozzy adds, “It’s always a sad day when somebody like that dies. It’s like when Michael Jackson died. I didn’t believe it at first. It’s such a f**king loss.” Van Halen opened for Black Sabbath in 1979 and Ozzy says, “one thing I loved about Eddie was he always had a big grin on his face, and he looked like he was enjoying every second he was up there,” adding, “Whether it was showbiz bullshit or not — I don’t think it was — he always looked like he was having the best time of his life up there.”
But it’s not just the music world that’s heartbroken, other stars reacting to the sad news include Jimmy Kimmel, Piers Morgan, Patton Oswalt, Dane Cook and more.
