Hope has given way to a harsh reality as Naya Rivera’s body was discovered at Lake Piru yesterday morning. The “Glee” star had been missing since last Wednesday. To review, her four-year-old son, Josey, was discovered sleeping on a rented boat alone.
Investigators say that Josey and Naya had gone swimming but she never made it back to the boat. She apparently boosted him back onto the boat – and when he looked back, Josey saw her disappear under the surface of the water. According to Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub, the 33-year-old’s body was found floating in the northeast area of the lake where the water is between 35- and 60-feet deep. He says that there is no indication of foul play or that it was a suicide.
“There are a lot of currents on the lake that appear typically in the afternoon,” Ayub explained at a press conference. “We believe it was mid-afternoon when she disappeared, the idea being that the boat started drifting, it was unanchored and that she mustered enough energy to get her son back onto the boat, but not enough to save herself.”
- Naya – who got her start as a child actress – is best known for playing Santana Lopez on “Glee,” a musical dramedy that won critical acclaim after debuting in 2009. She appeared in almost every episode until it ended in 2015.
- Not surprisingly, Naya’s famous friends and former castmates are in shock and sharing their tributes on social media.
