Rihanna is really showing up and showing out for COVID-19 relief. She first donated $5 million dollars to support several organizations worldwide, including local food banks that serve at-risk communities and the nation’s elderly. Then she and Jay-Z donated $2 million to support undocumented workers, the children of frontline health workers, and first responders, and incarcerated, elderly and homeless populations in New York City and Los Angeles.
Now the Good Girl Gone Bad – through her Clara Lionel Foundation – is joining with Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter/Square, to give a joint $4-point-2 million dollar grant to the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles. This time, she’ll be helping domestic violence victims dealing with the city’s “stay at home” order.
According to a press release, the Los Angeles Housing Authority determined that approximately 90 people per week have been turned away from full domestic violence shelters in Los Angeles since the Safer at Home Order was issued. With approximately $125 dollars per day, the money will provide 10 weeks of shelter, meals and counseling for 90 domestic violence victims a week, with 90 more added every week for 10 weeks.
