With so many people stuck inside amid coronavirus concerns, Netflix and YouTube are getting more traffic than ever… but apparently, it’s a little TOO much in some areas. Especially in Europe, where lockdowns kicked off early.
The European Union has urged Netflix and YouTube to restrict streaming to avoid internet overload, according to a statement shared by “Deadline.” Their suggestion? Offer only standard definition streaming to users during peak demand times.
Netflix is following the advice, too. They’ve already started reducing bandwidth across Europe, planning to keep it that way for the next 30 days at least. We’ll have to wait and see if similar measures are implemented in the States.
