As Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s $50-million legal battle rages on, the actress has taken another hit in court. Heard’s former assistant has chimed in on the record that she was “mentally and verbally” abused by the actress.
In Kate James’ testimony obtained by “The Blast,” she gives a laundry list of claims about her experience being Heard’s personal assistant from 2012 to 2015. James notes that she’s seasoned in the entertainment industry, with plenty of experience as a “personal assistant to high profile people”… but her time with Heard was a nightmare. Here’s are the highlights of James’ claims against Heard:
Heard was already dating Depp when James started working for her, and at first would speak about Depp “disparagingly,” as in: “I’m dating this old man.” Heard was “controlling and paranoid” about James’ interactions with Depp, even “polite small-talk,” while James found Depp to be “calm, shy, thoughtful, kind and decent.” So much so, that she left her son with the actor multiple times without “any concerns whatsoever.”
In contrast, James claims Heard was “regularly verbally and mentally abusive,” “screaming” at her over “the smallest things,” going into “blind rages where no-one could reason with her,” and giving James such an intense workload that she didn’t even have time to eat.
Meanwhile, James says Heard “relished” in Depp’s fame, and as their relationship went on James claims that Heard exhibited “bizarre” behavior where she would transform her style to match Depp’s, including her home decor, as well as ask for “free designer clothing on the basis that she was [Depp’s] girlfriend.”
James also alleges that Heard was so “open” about being on an “assortment” of substances like “mushrooms, MDMA and a great deal of wine,” that she was “almost to the point of bragging.” James claims she regularly woke up to “a barrage of incoherent abuse” from Heard via text sent in the middle of the night, which she alleges Heard would then delete from the iCloud account.
While the period of James’ employment overlapped with “the majority of the incidents” in which Heard alleges Depp was violent with her, James says she “never once” witnessed an incident, or any “buising, swelling, or any evidence [that] could have resulted from violence” – and as her assistant, she did see Heard naked, getting dressed, and around the clock seven days a week.
“I now recognize Amber’s behavior towards me as mental abuse,” James testifies. “I feel that I am permanently scarred by the experience, it was an exercise in daily humiliation. Amber was a classic bully.”
In response, a rep for Heard tells “The Blast” that James is just a “disgruntled former employee” with “an agenda” after being fired for “poor performance.”
