TI probably didn’t expect his appearance on the Ladies Like Us podcast to cause so much conversation, but what does a dad expect when he talks about taking his 18-year-old daughter to the gynecologist to make sure she’s still a virgin while condoning his 15-year-old son’s sexual activity?
TI said that he takes his daughter to the doctor to make sure her hymen is still intact. While it’s commonly believed that an intact hymen means virginity, celebrity gynecologist Dr. Jen Gunter shot off a lengthy thread to dispel the myth. “The hymen is no virginity indicator,” she noted.
Not surprisingly, several women were appalled by the situation. “The double standard of the patriarchy is truly insane,” Padma Lakshmi tweeted. “Young women are fully capable of making their own informed decisions about their bodies and their sexuality.” His daughter hasn’t commented on the situation. BUT she made it a point to “like” tweets that referred to her dad as possessive, disgusting, and controlling.
The hosts of “Ladies Like Us” issued an apology for how they reacted. In case you missed it, they laughed and joked with TI at the time, which they said was a knee-jerk reaction to an uncomfortable topic. They ended up deleting the episode.
