After 50 years, a Vietnam veteran has finally received his high school diploma. William Schaard was supposed to graduate high school before leaving for Vietnam, but was drafted before he could. On June 8th, he returned to his former high school, where he was given an honorary diploma. He says “He was 18 & very poor; his dad was abusive & it was the best option for him to join the Marine Corps, at that time!” He also says he was inspired by other Mid-Mich vets who recently got their diplomas, as well.
