f you see Jim Carrey out and about, just know that he’s not down to take a selfie. No offense to his fans, but the actor would much rather make some small talk than snap a pic for Instagram.
In a roundtable discussion with Henry Winkler, Don Cheadle, Sacha Baron Cohen and more for The Hollywood Reporter, Carrey explains his stance on fan selfies. Reflecting on all the publicity he was getting at the peak of his career, the actor says that “people create your life” – so instead of putting on a face everyone will like, now he’s just trying to get real.
“I dropped the whole trying to be something for somebody a long time ago,” he notes. “I would much prefer saying hello to giving a selfie. Selfies stop life. [It goes] on Instagram to give people a false sense of relevance.”
