- Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants Jussie Smollett to cover the police departments costs for their investigation into his claims of a hate crime.
- They want around $130 thousand bucks.
- Jussie’s people want them to issue an apology for making false statements against an innocent man.
The Mayor of Chicago wants Empire actor Jussie Smollett [[ SMUH-let ]] to cover costs of the police department’s investigation into his claims that he was a victim in a hate crime.
Earlier this week, felony charges against Smollett for allegedly filing a false police report were abruptly dropped. Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the city is still calculating how much money was spend on police resources for the investigation. Emmanuel says the Corporation Counsel will send a letter to Smollett and his attorneys once they “feel good about the numbers.”
The actor’s attorneys fired back by saying the mayor and police department owe Smollett an apology “for dragging an innocent man’s character through the mud.”
The Department of Law had sent Smollett a letter threatening that if he didn’t pay at least $130,000 “in a timely manner,” the city will go after him in court for making false statements, thus allowing them to collect more money from him under the municipal code.
