Week 5
A win over Green Bay.. I’ll take it in anyway! The lions hung on to beat Green Bay 31 to 23 on Sunday to move to 2-3 on the year. Green Bay outperformed Detroit in every area of the game, except for turnovers and special teams. We were all reminded once again how important it is to value the football. Detroit didn’t do anything special, they just took care of the football, something Green Bay failed to do in the first half.
Da’Shawn Hand is proving to be an excellent mid-round pick for Detroit, and if the pass rush we say vs Green bay can becomes a thing…So could Detroit as a contender! The other big story of the game was the continued emergence of Kenny Golladay, who hauled in 4 catches for 98 yards, while having another TD overturned by a penalty. Stafford now appears to have 3 solid targets at WR with Golladay, Tate, and Marvin Jones, add in the fact Kerryon Johnsosn looks better every game, this Lions offense could be a force for the next several years.
If Detroit wants to contend they really need to get back to 3 and 3 next week. Standing in their way is Miami who is 3 and 2, losing their last two after a 3 and 0 start. The lions then play Seattle at home, who has been a mess this season. If Detroit finds themselves at 4 and 3 that would set up a division showdown with Minnesota on November 4th, but as Bill Bellicheck would say, “Our focus is on Miami” and that’s where it needs to be because no win is a sure thing in the NFL, but as of now the Lions have won 3 straight vs the Packers for the first since before the Brett Favre era. That’ll get me to next Sunday!
