As someone who grew up in Shepherd, it is extremely sad to see Jenny’s Diner close. I will miss…well everything because the food was great no matter what! The one thing that will keep me up at night is never having that grilled cinnamon roll again. Jenny cuts a cinnamon roll in half, grills both sides and drowns in it frosting. It is the best cinnamon roll I have ever had…and I have tried hundreds (I really have).
However there is one thing that myself and anyone who frequented Jenny’s Diner will miss most, and that’s Jenny. She has a way of making you feel like you’re at her house eating. Like she expected you, and just happened to prepare your favorite plate. There will never be another restaurant that I walk into, and from across the kitchen and through dining room the owner yells, “Is that Spachman, how are you doing?”
With that being said, there aren’t many of restaurants where it’s the owner in the kitchen. Add in the scratch cooking, and it’s a rare gem. We’re blessed in mid-Michigan to have quite a few great breakfast places, but there will never be another Jenny’s Diner because there will never be another Jenny!
