The Beal City Aggies struck early. and struck often. In the end, they dominated the Sacred Heart Irish at home for a 34-8 victory Friday night. Kyle Yuncker opened the game with a 63-yard touchdown run, setting the tone. Quarterback Lucas Shoemaker then connected with Thomas McCann for a 22-yard touchdown pass. It was 14-0 Aggies at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Brett Upton added a short touchdown run, and Shoemaker connected with Yuncker for a 43-yard touchdown catch, and the second score of the game for both players. Beal City took a 26-0 lead into halftime.
Kollin Sharar punched in another rushing touchdown, and the Aggies added one more score in the second half to extend their lead. Defensively, Beal City kept Sacred Heart quarterback Ian Ruggles on his toes all day. Ruggles struggled to connect with any of his receivers, and the Aggies pressured him into two interceptions on the night.
Carter Lowe put the Irish on the board in the 4th quarter with a touchdown run. Colton Hyble also provided a bright spot for Sacred Heart. He caught ten passes for 103 yards on the night.
Kyle Yuncker had seven runs and four carries for 184 yards of total offense. His totals along with his two touchdowns earned him our JNR Engraving Player of the Game award.
Beal City returns home next Friday to host Clare in their annual matchup. The Pioneers and their senior quarterback Travis Vida should give the Aggies a tough matchup. Chris Spachman hosts that game on My 1043 starting at 6:45PM. Clare lost a 31-28 heartbreaker at home against the defending state champion Ithaca Yellowjackets to start their season.
Meanwhile, Sacred Heart travels to Carson City-Crystal to take on the Eagles in the MSAC opener for both teams. The Eagles lost 45-6 to Saranac in their season opener.
