  • Lady Gaga was ‘tre dramatique’ and sobbed when her song “Shallow,” took the award in the Best Original Song category (like she actually thought it wouldn’t win? come ooooon…)
  • Steve Carrell presented the first ever Carol Burnett Award to…well, Carol Burnett. During his presentation, he said of the comic legend, “She is funny and gracious and kind. She is without a doubt one of the most revered, respected and well-liked people in show business.” He then made a statement that was bleeped out. After much speculation on social media, it was finally revealed that he said she made Tom Hanks look like an a**hole.
  • When Burnett took the mic – and after a massive standing ovation from everyone in the room – she spoke about how her show happened at the right time..that her show could never be made today – both because of content, and cost.
  • Maya Rudolph faked a proposal to Amy Poehler, with whom she presented the adapted screenplay award.
  • As Christian Bale accepted his Best Actor award for his role as Dick Cheney in “Vice,” he thanked “Satan.” He also stunned just about everyone by letting us hear his ACTUAL accent!
  • While accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award, Jeff Bridges got cosmic. “I like to think of myself as a trim tab and all of us are trim tabs,” Bridges said (referencing the rudders on ocean liners). “It may seem that we’re not up to the task, but we are, man. We’re alive. We can make a difference. We can turn this ship in the way we want to go, man.” There you go…
  • While accepting the award for Best Supporting Actress for “If Beale Street Could Talk,” Regina King pledged to use 50 percent in her productions and challenged others to do the same.
  • Oh won Best Actress in a Television Drama for “Killing Eve.” She thanked her parents in Korean.
  • Patricia Arquette dropped an F-Bomb while accepting the honor as Best Actress in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her role Showtime’s “Escape at Dannemora.” While thanking everyone – Arquette referred to the makeup for her role and joked, “How many fucked-up teeth does one person need?” The she laughed, “I mean, I was born with fucked up teeth!” She later apologized.
  • Glenn Close’s emotional speech about how women should be allowed to find personal fulfillment was good enough to get the crowd to their feet. She won the Best Actress in a Drama for “The Wife.”
