The Alma community asked for answers as to why two city police officers were let go on Monday. Alma city manager Phil Moore said Alexander Hawkins and Tyler Gifford, both hired last year, were laid off because of budget concerns. The city also plans to move its drug officer on the Mid-Michigan Area Group Narcotics Enforcement Team back onto the road. The city’s K-9 Unit was also retired.
