I usually enjoy movies based on a true story, so it was natural for me to want to see War Dogs. I have also enjoyed Jonah Hill in a number of his movies and was curious to see him in this role. After having seen the movie I must highly recommend it and highly recommend Jonah Hill as one of my favorite actors.
War Dogs is a movie based on 2 men in their 20s from Miami, one of them has a background in selling guns, while the other is a massage therapist who is questioning his career choice. They take advantage of some goofy laws in the world of arms dealing to niche out a whole as guys who pick up small arms deals that the big players overlook. Over time the men develop a good reputation and set their sights on bigger deals, and then they land the grand slam of all deals. Worth hundreds of millions of dollars, this is where the men find themselves in way over their heads.
Miles Teller is stellar in the movie himself, but Jonah Hill really shines in this movie. After watching Superbad and 21 Jump Street it appeared that Hill had found his place as an actor. He is the goofy guy who gets laughs and gets laughed at a lot. In The Wolf of Wall Street; Hill breaks away from that character a little bit, but in the end is definitively the goofball of the movie.
War Dogs is completely different, of course Hill has some solid one-liners that will crack you up, but there isn’t anything funny about his character. Efraim Diveroli is displayed as a young man who isn’t afraid to take his chances in the gun running business and proves to be a money hungry evil shark. Far from the characters of Jonah Hill’s past, but he pulls it off in masterful fashion. Miles Teller and Jonah Hills outstanding performances have this movie ranked as one of my favorites seen in theaters in the last couple years. In my book War Dogs is a must see!
