Mt Pleasant public schools plan to make changes to the district’s sex education curriculum for the first time since 2011. Most significantly, sex education will begin in fourth grade rather than fifth grade. Co-Chair of the Sexual Education Advisory Board Jeff Angera said while the news won’t be received well by many parents, the information is important for students. The 4th grade program will focus almost entirely on bodily changes during puberty, and not sex. Additionally, the district plans to set up a website allowing parents easier access to the content taught in the program.
