Heavy hearts in Ludington as the community mourns the loss of a 16 year old boy after he died in a car crash Friday night.
The Mason County Sheriff says Henry Macdougall died in the crash on US-31.
It happened just after eight Friday night at the Sugar Grove road intersection in Mason County.
“Preliminary findings would lead us to believe that a west bound car on Sugar Grove Road made no attempt to stop at the stop sign on US-31 and drove underneath the trailer of a passing semi that was going northbound on US-31,” says Sheriff Kim Cole, Mason County.
Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole says Henry Macdougall was driving his car and didn’t’ stop at a stop sign before hitting a semi-truck.
“The car went under the trailer and was dragged for a short distance down the road. The young man driving the passenger car suffered very serious injuries and he passed away early Saturday,” says Cole.
Henry was just 16 years old and a junior at Ludington High School.
“What I can tell you about him is his loss has had a tremendous impact on this community. He was an individual that was well liked by many, not just here in Ludington but Mason County, neighboring school districts, he was a student at our career tech center,” says Jason Kennedy, superintendent of Ludington area schools.
The school held their homecoming dance Saturday night and had a crisis response team there for students and staff.
They plan to have that team on hand Monday also.
“Tomorrow will be the first time that kids are really truly back in school together and sometimes when students comes back to school after a loss like this and see an empty desk sitting there, that often evokes a lot of emotions that our school needs to be prepared to respond to,” says Kennedy.
The superintendent tells us the family is in the process of planning funeral arraignments for Henry.
