It is here, championship football! Whenever a team gets out of districts..It’s a big deal, but then when a team wins a regional title; well you are too close not to think about it, a state championship. This year the Beal City Aggies have gone 11-1, shared a Highland Conference Title, won a district title, and a regional title!
There are only two more titles of achievement this team can claim..State finalists and state champions! To be a state finalist the Aggies must defeat Ubly out of the thumb. A team that has been as consistent as Beal making the playoffs since the millennium making it every year except 2013 and 2014, they have reached the state finals once and that state semi’s 4 other times. So just like the Aggies the team and fans are familiar with deep runs in the playoffs, but lucky for Aggie fans this game is in Mt Pleasant!
This game similar to every Beal playoff game is going to come down to stopping the run. Ubly will run a t or wing t offense with lots of fakes. The Aggies have faced similar offenses in the past several weeks, but Ubly may be the best when it comes to execution. Looking at numbers from Ubly’s 56-36 win over Saginaw Nouvel; it was all about Casron Helenski who had a historic playoff game..37 carries for 347 yards and 6 TD’s. Those are video game numbers, buuuuut as Lee Coroso would say not so fast my friend! The Aggies have consistently shut down the opposing teams best rusher throughout the playoffs! If the Aggies can do that again they can think about planning a trip to the state finals!
