President Joe Biden ended several weeks of speculation and pressure about his presidential campaign yesterday when he withdrew from the Presidential race. Posting on his official X account, Biden said that “while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.” In a follow-up post, Biden praised Vice President Kamala Harris and urged Democrats to unite behind her as a candidate, giving her his “full endorsement.”
