Andrew Blair Howard, 63, of Sparta and Frankfort – who illegally dredged the Platte River, leading to a flooded beach at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore – has been sentenced. Howard was sentenced to 60 months’ probation and ordered to pay over $20,000 in total restitution to the National Park Service and U.S. Coast Guard, along with over $3,500 in costs related to the court proceedings. The man has also been banned from being on National Park service property.
