Kitten season is in full swing, and the city of Mt. Pleasant is again rounding up felines for its trap, neuter, release program. Started in 2021, the program aims to reduce the feral cat population by humanely trapping, sterilizing and vaccinating cats before returning them to their outdoor habitats. Running from April to October, the program as of the end of August 2023 trapped 135 of the city’s population of roughly 2,000 feral cats, neutering or spaying them and returning them to their neighborhood colonies.
