Pharrell Williams is demanding President Donald Trump stop using his music at his rallies. The singer’s lawyer sent the president a cease and desist letter after he used Pharrell’s song “Happy” during his rally in Indiana Saturday just hours after a gunman opened fire at a Pittsburgh synagogue.
“On the day of the mass murder of 11 human beings at the hands of a deranged ‘nationalist,’ you played his song ‘Happy’ to a crowd at a political event in Indiana,” the singer’s attorney Howard King writes in the letter. “There was nothing ‘happy’ about the tragedy inflicted upon our country on Saturday and no permission was granted for your use of this song for this purpose.”
The letter went on to note that Pharrell has never and will never give Trump permission to use his music, and adds that doing amounts to copyright and trademark infringement.
