Burt Reynolds Says Bizarre Comment To Hoda

Burt Reynolds is doing press for his latest film, “The Last Movie Star.” It’s about an aging movie star who’s coming to terms with the fact that is career is ending. During an appearance on Today, the 82-year-old said that the film is close to him because a “lot of what was happening on screen is happening to me now.”

Hoda Kotb asked him who was the love of his life, and he said Sally Field. The two met on the set of 1977’s “Smokey and the Bandit” and dated for five years. “She was seven when I fell in love with her. She stayed seven for about 11 years,” he said. “I wanted her really bad for ‘Smokey’ and they said, ‘Well, she’s not sexy.’ And I said, ‘You don’t get it. Talent is sexy.’ And she’s got that.”

The interview took a bizarre turn at the end. After saying he’d choose George Clooney to portray him in a film someday, Burt told Hoda, “I am so proud of you for not having your lips larger.” She didn’t really know how to take that statement and she looked a little uncomfortable.” No word on what he meant by that, but “The Last Movie Star” hits theaters on March 30th.
