Sad news out of Hollywood this weekend as actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a tragic accident. The vehicle he was working on rolled over and killed him, he was only 27 years old. Yelchin is best known for portraying Chekov in the new Star Trek films. He was also in films such as Terminator: Salvation and The Smurfs where he was the voice of Clumsy Smurf.
Anton Yelchin will leave behind great performances in his films, as well as films that have yet to be released. Films such as Star Trek Beyond and We Don’t Belong Here are just a couple of posthumous releases we have the opportunity to see over the next couple of years as well as a TV show that he provided his voice for. Yelchin’s death comes as a shock, a terrible loss for Hollywood and for all of his fans.
The freak accident comes after recalls of the vehicle that Yelchin was working on at the time of his death. Chrysler who owns the Jeep brand had just rolled out recall notices for the same kind of accident that killed Yelchin. The vehicles have been known to release their parking brakes without warning which is exactly what happened to the actor. Usually it takes a freak accident like this to accelerate change and let’s hope that this accident does just that.
But let us not just remember Anton Yelchin for this accident. Let’s remember him for all of the great roles he portrayed and the great films he was in. He will be remembered for being the new Chekov in the Star Trek films. Plus we will get a chance to see him in a few posthumous releases as well. We were lucky to have seen him, rest easy Anton Yelchin, thanks for the memories
