Starter Jordan Zimmermann left in the 7th inning of a strong performance with a strain to his right groin. MRI results are expected to reveal that Zimmermann will miss 2-6 weeks. Miguel Cabrera, who had three hits including a 2-run home run, also left the game after being hit in the knee by a pitch. He is considered day-to day.
Following Sunday’s game, the Detroit Tigers optioned pitcher Drew VerHagen to Triple-A Toledo, and recalled pitcher Buck Farmer. In 19 games with the Tigers, VerHagen has a 1-0 record with a 7.11 ERA while striking out 10 and walking seven.
