Lady Gaga is vehemently denying a songwriter’s accusation that she stole the melody for her Oscar-winning “A Star Is Born” song “Shallow.”
Songwriter Steve Ronsen is threatening to sue Gaga accusing her of stealing a three-note progression for the hook of her song from his little heard tune “Almost,” and Gaga’s team describes the possible suit as a “brazen shakedown.”
“Mr. Ronsen and his lawyer are trying to make easy money off the back of a successful artist. It is shameful and wrong,” Gaga’s lawyer Orin Snyder said in a statement. “I applaud Lady Gaga for having the courage and integrity to stand up on behalf of successful artists who find themselves on the receiving end of such [claims],” adding that if a lawsuit is filed, “Lady Gaga will fight it vigorously and will prevail.”
