Opening statements in Mateen Cleaves’ trial on sexual assault charges were made Thursday. Cleaves’s attorney said consensual sex between two adults is not a crime. He said the alleged victim was in a motel room with Cleaves of her own free will. Prosecutors however said the woman told Cleaves she wanted to leave but he wouldn’t let her.
