Yesterday, we reported that Broadway legend Carol Channing passed away at the age of 97. Since the sad news broke, tons of music legends and other celebs have taken to Twitter to pay tribute to the late singer, comedienne and actress. Here’s how they’ve paid tribute to the star.

  • The Twitter account for fellow late legend Louis Armstrong, who died in 1971, has shared a picture of the two together. “Goodbye, Dolly,” the tweet reads. “Here she is onstage with Louis Armstrong when he attended a performance of ‘Hello, Dolly!’ at the St. James Theatre in 1965.”
  • Another Broadway star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, has shared the lyrics to “Before The Parade Passes By” from “Hello, Dolly!” adding, “Goodbye, Carol.” Bernadette Peters retweeted it and adds, “She was show business and love personified.”
  • Pee-Wee Herman has shared a sweet photo of himself and Channing together. “One of the nicest, sweetest people I ever had the pleasure of working with,” he writes. “What an original, one of a kind, LEGEND!”
  • Barbra Streisand has also posted a photo with Channing and written a sweet caption. “Carol was a true life-force,” she offers. “A kind and effervescent woman who never allowed the parade to pass her by!”
  • Bette Midler has given her condolences “to the world” after hearing news of her passing. “She was a complete original, and there will never be another,” she writes. “Blonde, 6 ft tall and utterly hilarious, she was a legend.”
  • Kristin Chenoweth has written a heartfelt tweet about her idol. “Carol Channing was one of the few who paved the path for so many women in theater and beyond,” she notes. “I will forever admire and look up to you, Carol.”

Tributes have also come from George Takei, Stacy London, Mitzi Gaynor, Josh Gad, and more. Meanwhile, the company currently touring “Hello Dolly!” has released a statement about her passing and dedicated a performance to “the original star.”

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of the one and only Carol Channing. She was a ‘Dolly’ for the ages, and a true icon of the American Theater,” the statement reads. “Betty Buckley and the cast will dedicate tonight’s performance in San Diego to her memory.”
