Nestle has responded to a petition that challenges their permit to pump more water in Osceola County. Earlier this year, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality approved Nestle’s application to pump 150 more gallons of water per minute from an Osceola Township aquifer. However, the conservation group “Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation” submitted a petition against the MDEQ. They claim the MDEQ didn’t consider the environmental consequences of withdrawing more water, and say it was illegal for them to grant Nestle additional access. If it’s not resolved, the case could go to trial.
