The one-time White House intern who had an affair with former President Bill Clinton says she was disinvited from an event after Clinton accepted an invitation to speak.
Monica Lewinsky wrote in a tweet that “Town & Country” magazine pulled her invitation to its annual philanthropy summit in New York City yesterday. Clinton attended and introduced Parkland, Florida high school student Emma Gonzalez. She’s become an advocate for tougher gun laws since surviving the mass shooting that killed 17 people at her school in February.
Clinton had an affair with Lewinsky when she was a 21-year-old White House intern in the mid-1990s. Clinton’s denial of the affair played a role in his impeachment by the House of Representatives.
The magazine tweeted an apology this morning noting they regret the way it was handled. Judd Apatow went after the publication in defense of Lewinsky making them a target of the #MeToo movement. “This is what everyone is fighting against. @townandcountry should be ashamed of themselves. Do they let their heads of the magazine prey on their interns? Would they disinvite them after abusing their power to get what they wanted from them? “
