August 24th is Kobe Bryant Day in Orange County, California. The NBA Hall of Famer, who passed away in January, lived in the area for over 20 years.
According to the Orange County Board of Supervisors, Kobe was well liked around town and was spotted playing the role of Good Samaritan. When he and seven others were killed in a helicopter crash, officials wanted to make sure they honored his legacy.
According to the resolution, the date was chosen because Bryant wore the numbers eight and 24 on his jerseys during his career with the Los Angeles Lakers; hence, it’s August 24th. And if you want to celebrate, you can engage in community building, help young people in need, encourage aspiring youth to follow their dreams, and live by Bryant’s words – “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they could be great in whatever they want to do.”
