Wendy Williams may have bitten off more than she could chew with her latest fight. In case you missed it, she recently made fun of what appears to be Joaquin Phoenix’s cleft palate by pulling her lip up with her finger and mocking away while her audience laughed.
After brutal social media backlash that included rebukes from Cher and Canadian Football linebacker Adam Bighill, Wendy issued an apology for the insensitive gesture. She even donated to organizations that help children with cleft palates.
For the record, “The Joker” star has never admitted to having the condition. While he has a scar similar to many who’ve had their cleft lip surgically closed, he has said it’s simply a scar he was born with. It’s referred to as a ‘microform cleft lip.
While Bighill accepted the talk show host’s apology, Cher wasn’t as moved. In fact, she was like, “There is no apology for what she did…[and] laughed about.” The singer said that her role in “Mask” as the mother of a boy with a rare disfiguring facial condition gave her a greater appreciation and sympathy for the plight of those suffering from those kind of conditions.
