We previously reported that ads for Universal Pictures’ controversial upcoming film “The Hunt” were pulled in the wake of the recent deadly shootings in El Paso, Dayton and Gilroy. Now, the release of the film has been canceled altogether.

The studio has announced the decision in an official statement on the movie’s website. “We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller,” the statement reads. “But we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.”

“The Hunt” was originally set for release in September. While it’s meant to be satirical social commentary, the movie has sparked controversy due to its themes of guns, ultra-violent killings, and the “hunting” of rural Americans by wealthy elites. Even President Donald Trump has seemingly slammed the film, calling it “dangerous for our country.”
