Fox’s live production of the musical “Rent” aired last night – and in case you missed it, the cast was decorated by the likes of Vanessa Hudgens, Brennin Hunt, Tinashe, Keala Settle, Jordan Fisher, Kiersey Clemons, Brandon Victor Dixon, Mario, Jennifer Leigh Warren and Valentina.
The kicker (literally?) It could’ve gotten off on a very bad foot. Literally. That’s because Hunt, who played Roger, broke his foot over the weekend! Disaster was averted, however, the show went on…though it thanks to Fox’s decision to air his scenes from Saturday’s rehearsal instead.
While viewers at home saw the previously shot scenes edited into the show, those in live audience had an entirely different experience. Hunt actually wheeled around in a wheelchair on stage during the live show (which you can see some footage of below), and impressively still showed off some of his vocal chops for the in-house audience.
- But the moment that everyone was waiting for came at the end of the show. That’s when the original cast of Broadway’s “Rent” joined the cast of Fox’s production to sing the classic “Seasons Of Love.” That includes, Idina Menzel, Daphne Rubin Vega, Fredi Walker, Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, Taye Diggs, Wilson Jermaine Heredia and Jesse L. Martin. Halfway through the number, they stood side-by-side just like the original, but this time standing next to the person playing the same character they did.
- But even the OG cast reuniting and Fox’s solution to Hunt’s broken foot couldn’t stop the Twitterverse from having an opinion or two. Fans have mixed feelings about the entire production. Some weren’t totally sold on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star Valentina in the role of Angel, and others weren’t even happy about how “Seasons Of Love” was alternatively choreographed.
